What We Do
The Seeking Shop hopes to create a space where you can seek good ideas and practical guidance on some of life's most pressing questions, e.g. how to find fulfilling work, how to change the world, how to age, how to thrive in the digital age.
Part salon, workshop, and cultural studies club, we organize our San Francisco-based sessions around asking the big, often daunting philosophical questions that prey on all of our minds but are difficult to do justice in casual social settings. We've ferreted out and synthesized ideas in philosophy, literature, visual arts, pop culture, and other media to propose some different ways of looking at universal questions about the art of living. Our sessions usually involve a combination of lecture, hands-on practical exercise, and therapeutic discussion/debate.
"In the Ancient Greek play "The Clouds", (423 BC) Aristophanes had made fun of Socrates and his "Thinking-shop" where he claimed one learned the art of proving one's self right no matter how wrong. The Seeking Shop is a play on this affectionate name.
